Joe was raised in Campbell, New York. He began working on guns during his high school years. Joe graduated from the Gunsmithing program at the Colorado School of Trades, in 1985. He attended engraving classes, given by Neil Hartliep at the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1986 & 1987. From 1985 until 2002, Joe ran a gunsmithing business from his home in New York. In 2002 Joe and his family moved to Big Timber, Montana.While living in Montana, Joe reopened and worked his home business, and for 10 years served as the Production Manager and Engraver for C. Sharps Arms Co. Recently Joe has returned to Campbell NY., and started his independent business once again, where he continues to produce top quality custom guns, offers fine hand engraving, and restoration services.
Joe's work has been featured in Rifle Magazine's Custom corner and the Single Shot Exchange, and is currently the editor of GunMaker magazine.
Most recently He was accepted into the American Custom Gunmaker Guild's Professional membership as a Metal-smith and Stock maker. Joe is also recognized by the Firearms Engravers Guild of America, as a Master Engraver.
Joe has built rifles for competition shooters such as Brian Chilson who has won several national and state championships, and currently holds several records in both.
Joe reopened his Custom Gun Shop in 2012, and is currently creating one of a kind functional pieces of fine art in his hometown of Campbell NY.
In Aug. of 2010 Joe was one of only 12 of the top ranked engravers accepted into a Grand Masters engraving class. The above photo is of his project.
Up until May of 2012 Joe was the sole engraver for C. Sharps Arms, and is now engraving through his own shop located in Campbell NY.
